isreported that recently, the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe District) has formally "married" the Duisburg Port of Germany, the world's largest inland river port. The two parties will participate in the formation of Xinjiang International Land Port Holdings Co., Ltd. with a registered capital of 200 million yuan, and undertake the enterprise operation of Xinjiang International Dry Port. In addition, a fixed train between Duisburg Port and Xinjiang International Land Port will be opened. It is planned to open in the first half of this year, with one train every week, in order to turn Xinjiang International Land Port into the main port of China's international railway.
According to reports, in November 2015, the People's Government of the Autonomous Region approved the construction of the Urumqi West Railway Station as the center, to develop the Urumqi Railway Freight Port and the Xinjiang China-Europe Express Train Assembly Center, relying on this to build an international land port in Xinjiang. The land port area is based on the 2.2 square kilometers area south of Urumqi West Station, covering an industrial development area with a surrounding area of about 120 square kilometers, allowing the two ports to serve as distribution centers for the Asia-Europe rail container transportation service that runs through China and Europe.
This "marriage" with Duisburg, Germany will establish a stable and normalized railway connection between the two ports. In terms of time, it used to take at least 45 days to ship goods from Xinjiang to Germany. After the train opens in the first half of this year, the goods can be shipped to Germany in just 12 days and to Russia in 7 days. From the perspective of transportation cost, the same TEU of goods transported from Urumqi to Europe takes 5 to 7 days by air, and the cost is about 65,000 US dollars. It takes 45 days by sea, and the minimum cost is 3,000 to 3,500 US dollars. The transportation cost is about 1/14 of that of air transportation, and the transportation time is about 1/3 of that of sea transportation. This is very important for the "cost-effectiveness" that customers are generally concerned about. Compared with other modes of transportation, China-Europe Express is more efficient and reasonable in cost. Rail transportation It can also greatly reduce export costs, which will fundamentally reduce the transportation time and cost of large and medium-sized goods.
In addition, Xinjiang has unique geographical advantages, with the advantages of railways, highways, aviation and other comprehensive transportation hubs. The Port of Duisburg in Germany is also the world's largest inland river port. It is not only a large-scale distribution center for German metal, ore, and coal resources, but also a central hub for direct trains between China and Europe. It is an important station and cargo gathering place for China-Europe Express trains in Europe.
At present, many cities in mainland China have opened freight trains that pass through Xinjiang and then arrive in Europe, connecting Urumqi and Duisburg, and then strengthening the development of inland linear railways between China and Europe, including the intermodal transportation of other cities. The development has jointly opened a new trade channel connecting China and Europe, and laid the foundation for the development of China's westbound international freight train Xinjiang gathering center. The opening of the China-Europe Express has effectively avoided the serious waste of railway capacity. It is not only good to the development of Western Europe, but also good to the development of Xinjiang and promotes the internationalization of Xinjiang’s international land ports.
